How do you feel about organic food?

Love it? Hate it?

Ambivalent.

Most conventionally grown fruits and vegetables have no more contaminants then organically grown produce. Just because you didn’t use artificial pesticides does not mean the produce is not exposured to pollutants in the air, water, and soil. Even the animal manure used in Organic Produce can be dangerous if not heat treated.
And very few growers are actually inspected in any given year.

Even the term ‘organic’ is not what most people thinks it means. In the US, a grower of any produce can use the label ‘organic’ if they startout using so-call organic materials and methods, but if for some reason the components are not readily available, they can switch to conventional means and keep the label of ‘organic’.

I’m not an advocate for indiscriminant use of pesticide or fertilizers, nor am I a convert to totally organic farming. Without some use of pesticides and fertilizers, we would be at the mercy of famines due to blights, plant diseases, and insect infestations. But I also believe that there has to be a counterbalance or middle ground.
