1,2 dibromoethane plus KOH in ethanolic solution, what are the products?
I got this question in my chemistry exam, our syllabus did not have reaction of a haloalkane with two halogen atoms plus KOH in ethanolic solution, it had one halogen atom. The product in that case is ethene, water and halide salt, how will an alkane with two halogen atoms behave? Will the organic product be the same or will triple bond be produced forming ethyne?

No ethyne. Could be some bromoethene. I would say predicting the product would depend what chapter you are on in your book. If you are on alkenes, then bromoethene. If you are on substitution, then oxirane, or its by products or products depending on reaction conditions. If it were heated, it will continue to react. If concentrated, then it is more likely it will polymerize. If dilute and extended reaction, then it can open to give 1,2-ethanediol. Some diol can form from two intermolecular reactions as well.
