Why isnt ethanol being discussed more?
I was just reading today about some startup company that says they can make ethanol for about $1 a gallon using any organic material, not just corn. If they can do this in mass numbers like they expect, why can’t this replace gasoline? Its domestic, we already have the engine technology and with this breakthrough (was actually back in April) they can produce it cheaply without affecting food supplies.
I’m referring to the discussions about freeing ourselves from foreign oil. They keep saying we need electric cars when to make more electric you’re using more oil anyway. Why is ethanol being pushed to the side instead of making all vehicles compatible with this fuel?
Ethanol was a terrible idea that is costing everybody more than it saves. Corn is now so expensive that farmers can’t feed their cows, which drives up the cost of beef. So now two food staples are unnecessarily expensive, all so that 10-15% of your gas won’t be pure oil product. It was a bad idea that everybody grasped onto too quickly without thinking about the consequences. Now they are trying to develop ethanol using plants such as kudzoo, which is plentiful and not a food source. This is what they should have done to begin with.
