Cincinnati Data Recovery -How to Create A Partition without Formatting
Disk partitioning is act of dividing the storage space of a hard disk drive into separate data area. This partition editor program can be used to create, delete or modify these partitions. Once a disk is divided into several partitions, it may be stored in different partitions. Careful consideration of the size of the partition is very necessary because the ability to change the size depends on the file system installed on the partition.
Various reasons to use hard disk partitions
A hard disk can be split into multiple partitions in order to organize data more effectively. On Microsoft machines, it is very common to store the OS and applications on one hard disk partition and user data on another hard disk partition.
A hard disk is split in to multiple partitions. The only reason is because smaller partitions often have smaller cluster sizes. A cluster size is the smallest piece of data which a partition can store. This is a very useful strategy if you want to store a large number of small files. If you to seek a good expert advice regarding any formatting or partition of the hard disk, the best option would be Data Recovery, if you are in Northern Kentucky.
Following are steps to be followed while creating a partition without formatting:
- First step would be to Left click on the Start button which is located on the lower left side of your desktop. Then left click the Control Panel which is located on the resulting start menu.
- Next step would be to double left click the Administrative Tools icon which is located on the control panel window.
- Double click on the Computer Management. Then left click the Disk Management which is located on the left most of the computer management window. By following this would list the installed drives in the middle frame of the computer management window.
- Now, right click the drive on which you want to create a partition. This will give a context menu of available drive operations. Now left lick on the Shrink Volume heading from the context menu.
- You can now enter an amount of hard drive space, which is measured in megabytes, by which to shrink the currently active partition. The amount you have entered here will be the maximum size of the new partition you create.
- The next step would be to click the Shrink button to begin the partition shrinking process. Depending on the size of your hard drive, this process might take some time (Few minutes).
- After the completion of the shrinking process now, right click the newly formed unallocated space on your hard drive. This will produce a context menu.
- By left clicking the Format heading it will produce the format dialog box.
Select the file system that you desire from the fie pull down menu, and then click the OK button. Now, the formatting process will begin and the unallocated space into a usable drive partition. Now the newly formatted partition will also be assigned to a system drive letter.
The last step in the whole process would be to restart your computer upon completion of the formatting of the new partition. This will ensure all system-level changes go into effect.
