Selling organic fruits and veggies in Georgia.?
In the process of selling organic fruits and veggies and I dont know where to start!!!! I need to find a wholesale market. Do u know of any in Georgia? If you have advice on staring a business …IM ALL EARS!!!
Note: I’m not harvesting any produce…I just want to purchase the produce from a organic wholesaler and sell it a local fleamarket.
First you need to either be certified or selling under $5000 gross annually (and if you are looking for a wholesaler you should be selling far more than $5000). Contact the GA dept of Ag for more information.
You will make about 2x more if you sell direct to the customer than wholesale but you will also spend at least twice as much of your time marketing. I do a couple of farmers markets a week and make decent money.
I hope you don’t currently have a crop harvested and are just now looking for a buyer. Never plant a crop until you have a market for it.
You might try upscale restaurants in the nearest metro area such as Atlanta or Athens.
Check out market farming forums such as http://gardenweb.com/forums/market
http://lists.ibiblio.org/mailman/listinfo/market-farming
These are great places to learn a lot and find markets.
Also check out http://www.newfarm.org They have tons of information about organic farming and also market contacts. Big website/lots of information
Finally, if you want to sell direct get a listing on http://www.localharvest.org. It’s free and effective
