Where is the best place to move in or around Seattle?

My wife and I are tired of the Desert sun and want to get far far away from here. I once visited Seattle on a tour and LOVED it. I am a Freelance photographer and Artist so we would like to be in a place where the arts are appreciated. However, we are family people and do not want to be around a lot of parties and such. Ideally the place would have a nice shopping center near by, organic market, and little cafes. Can anyone help us???

Sounds to me like you need to be in Fremont! :)

Basically, Fremont is about 5 miles north of the heart of downtown. This means an easy drive, bike ride, bus ride, or even walk into the city. Fremont also plays host to a TON of cool cultural festivals, shows, outdoor cinema (AWESOME), etc. It’s what us Seattle natives refer to as the ‘artsy’ area of Seattle. Street festivals, PCC Natural Markets, cute little boutique shops lining the streets — but if you get a mile out or so, you find cute little neighborhoods with kitchy houses and quirky neighbors. !

The main strip of Fremont (Fremont Ave and N. 34th area) can get a bit raucous at night, and especially on weekends, but if you head a bit outside that area, towards Ballard (E) or north towards Green Lake, it’s a lot quieter, but still close enough to all the action that you can still feel urban!

hope this helps!

Picnic Market & Cafe

PicNic Market & Cafe is an Upper Westside neighborhood Alsatian Bistro serving what Chef Proprietaire Jean Luc Kieffer calls “nostalgically French cuisine with a twist”. Alsatian Classics like Choucroute, Tarte Flambe & Spaetzle reflect Kieffer’s roots as well as French Classics – Cassoulet, Duck Confit, Beef Bourguignon, Coq au Vin and Cheese Souffle. Chef Kieffer presents these dishes with a modern elegance. He is very selective in the ingredients he uses and works closely with many of the farmers from the Greenmarket. The menu encompasses seasonal ingredients with weekly deliveries from Bradley Farms (organic) in New Paltz New York. The wine list is composed of small boutique vineyards with some organic offerings and a large selection of by the glass.Picnic is open 7 days a week and serves breakfast, lunch, weekend brunch and dinner. As you enter Picnic you will find a small market where you will see Artisanal Cheeses, Silver Moon Bakery bread, small selection of charcuterie and Parisian style sandwiches, cookies, sweets and daily prepared foods for take out.

We opened our doors in 1993, when the neighborhood known as Hell’s Kitchen really lived up to it’s name. Since then we have established ourselves as a destination for both locals and visitors alike. We bring you a truly gourmet dining experience in a casual atmosphere, at reasonable prices.A trip to the cafe is like a trip back in time. They don’t make places like this anymore. It’s white tiled walls, Formica table tops, and vintage chairs and barstools create a look and feel that is quintessentially old New York. Whether you are meeting friends for brunch, having a business lunch, or on a dinner date, the candelit dining room offers an ambience that is always warm, inviting, and unhurried. Our menu features an eclectic mix of American Continental dishes ranging from our Seared Sea Scallops with potato puree in a brown butter sauce, to our signature Steak Frites served with our “Market Spiced Fries” and pesto butter. We also feature homemade desserts like our Three Layer Chocolate Cake, and a selection of Artisanal cheeses. Our creative cocktails are made with all natural fruit juices and premium liquor. Whether you are dining in or ordering out, our aim is to create an exceptional experience. From the freshness of the ingredients we use in the food, to the professionalism of our staff we have cultivated every detail to reflect our focus on quality and value.
