Okay, this Raw food thing…?
I’ve been hearing about this raw food dieting and how raw foods are good. I’ve been very interested in it, but I’m confused. What exactly is a raw food. Are fruits from the grocery store raw? Is it concidered raw if it is organic? What do “raw food eaters” order at resteraunts? What are some “raw meals”, or do I just eat apples for dinner? Is it hard to start up the “raw” lifestyle? What is okay to drink? Is there a list of raw recipies or foods somewhere? Does this mean if I eat broccoli, I should not cook it?
As you can see I have no idea where to start, I have no idea how to grocery shop for this, and I don’t know the exact details of what makes something raw, or any idea what foods are “raw”. Please help. Thank you
Hi! I’m so glad that you’ve discovered the raw food lifestyle..
I’ve been 3 weeks raw now and have lost a lot of weight, my athsma has pretty much gone and I feel fantastic!
The concept is basically to eat just raw fruits, vegetables and nuts.
There is a LOT of stuff you can eat on a raw food diet..from raw pizzas, calzones, crepes, breads, cheeses, crackers, chocolate etc from raw ingredients!
Some of these recipes require a dehydrator..the excaliber models are the best…and a worthwhile investment. They heat up food upto a point where no nutritional value is lost.
If you eat out at a normal restaurant order a main sized salad and ask them to put any raw vegetables they have (look through other dishes and ask if you can have some avocado that was featured on a chicken avocado dish etc)

If you also check out www.oneluckyduck.com for some raw treats like raw maccaroons, granola etc
As an example of a raw food diet here is a day from my personal food diary:
8:30 – green lemonade; 2 stalks celery, 3 leaves romaine lettuce, 1 lemon, 1 inch ginger, 3 medium sized apples all juiced..this provides a great energy boost and starts off your day topped with enzymes)
9:30 – mango, banana, blueberry and raspberry pudding (absolutely delicious, all just blended in a smoothie maker/ food processer and topped with more berries
11:00 – a few pieces raw chocolate (bought from www.detoxyourworld.com) and a handful of goji berries
1:30 – large salad (baby salad leaves, rocket, spinach, kale, tomatoes, celery, carrots, cucumber, alfalfa sprouts, chickpea sprouts, aduki sprouts, mung sprouts) with a dressing made of olive oil and lemon
3:30 – dried blueberries, dried golden raisins, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds. a handful of raw homemade salt and vinegar chips.
5:30 – apple pie larabar
6:30 – flax seed and herb wrap with a layer of cashew chive cheese and lettuce leaves, tomatoes and alfalfa sprouts.
1 raw burger with tomato salsa.
As you can see…i ate quite a lot this day but this is normal of a raw food diet..you can eat as much as you like!! Most of the things in my daily diary have been homemade apart from the larabar which you can buy from many wholefood stores.
