Diabetic Type II – Snacking problems?
OK. I have no problem with a good diet for diabetics at all – as a matter of fact, I was eating better than the nutritionist recommended before my Dx. I am vegetarian, eat organic, whole foods, most fruits and veggies I have raw or lightly sauteed. I am careful about any juices or “smoothies” I drink – if the sugar is too high, say above 3 grams for a large drink, or the carbs are above 9 or 10 without at least 5 ro 6 grams of fiber to balance that out, I won’t eat/drink it.
Most fruits are high glycemic as are carrots so I don’t tolerate those that well. That leaves me with day after day of cukes, squash, toms, broc, ‘shrooms, and caul – and that gets old, even for me. And, (it’s an age thing) the above mentioned veggies do promote gas. That’s no fun, either. Beano helps some, but not completely.
It would be fun to have a bit more taste with out the carbs or sugar to worry about. And still be not messy to eat or require a fork or spoon. Can’t afford a new smoothie maker now.

This web site is the best Glycimic Index on the web. If you scroll down this impressive list I bet you will find dozens of things to snack on besides cucumbers and celery.
And I didn’t check this out but I did find out that a new test for watermelon was very impressive . It was done on 4 oz. of watermellon. ok I found it!
The carbohydrate in watermelon, for example, has a high GI. But there isn’t a lot of it, so watermelon’s glycemic load is relatively low. A GL of 20 or more is high, a GL of 11 to 19 inclusive is medium, and a GL of 10 or less is low.
Watermellon Glycimic load is 4…
I would have listed some of the things to snack on but I do not know your likes or dislikes. Much easier for you. Good question. A star is in order.
