Why do most consumers abide the underhanded marketing tactics of business?

This is of course a wide open question, but I can provide a couple of instances from my own experience that make me wonder. Consider, for example, the notion that we’ve been sold for years food that contains unnatural ingredients at premium prices, and then we see a rise of organics, which are offered at even higher prices. To me, this is essentially a confession from producers saying, “We did offer you crap, but now we’re making it better by offering a better product at a much higher price.”

Also, think about buying a DVD with an abridged version of a film, then having the ‘director’s cut’ for sale months later.

Are these phenomena a result of corporatization, globalization, or the post-industrialist society? I’m not certain. Any thoughts?

These corporations of the food industry got rid of the healthy varieties of food long before they took over. This was accomplished with advertising and pesticides. These giants still are around and still in control of many unhealthy foods. The truth in labelling will soon fall from the relentless lobbying of the giants and the food will become as one. Eat local and keep the farms alive, the economy needs it.

Documentary filmmaker Jean-Paul Jaud sets out to discover if contemporary society can create a food supply that isn`t littered with contaminants by exploring the current trend of organic, localized food production in France. The current generation is the very first in history that will grow up less healthy than the one that preceded it. Cancer and infertility rates are skyrocketing. Could it have something to do with our tainted food supplies? By paying a visit to a remote French village where the lunch menu is comprised entirely of organic, locally grown foods, Jaud highlights the ways in which some communities are shunning food industry giants to go back to the basics. A wide variety of interviews with everyone from researchers to schoolchildren reveal the deep flaws that exist within the food industry and raise though-provoking questions about what can be done to correct them.
