Beech Nut — Organic or Not?

After researching this website for my question above, I found an old resolved question that indicated all moms believed Beech Nut to be organic and were happily feeding it to their babies. I investigated a little further by writting to the company direclty, and here’s the answer I received: “Dear Ms. Gillies,
Thank you for writing. Beech-Nut products are not certified organic. As
part of our commitment to giving babies a healthy start in life, we’ve
taken a leadership role in keeping pesticide residues to an absolute
minimum. Our pesticide standards are significantly stricter than the
Federal requirements. In fact, levels in our baby foods are negligible to
non-detectable, making our products comparable to those containing
organically grown fruits and vegetables. Non-organic and organic
commercial baby foods are equally as safe and are equally nutritional.”
I will stick to Earth’s Best, Organic Baby and whatever else I can find at organic markets such as Mrs. Greens. Beware!

It sounds that what they are telling you is that they don’t use ingredients that are certified organic but that they test the pesticide levels of the conventionally-gown ingredients they do use to ensure that they are very low and comparable to those in Organic Food. It sounds good enough to me if your primary reason for buying organic is due to concern about pesticides (rather than for environmental concerns)
