Has anyone ever run a Farmers Market?
Has anyone ever run a farmers market? Can you tell me what kind of things were involved? How many providers will charge you? Was it profitable? How to handle taxes? As a sole proprietor? Did you know you have to worry about taxes deposit the money from vendors? It would be in Illinois. How did you handle the vendors wanted to make products home as jelly or honey? What did the Ministry of Health requires? Any information or advice would be appreciated. Thanks
I in Ohio. Insurance all licenses, authorities, inspections, taxes, sellers are legally sell their products to them. all that is imposed on payments received. You do not have to worry about sales tax, if not close. if the food they need to do in a kitchen licensed. Call your department County Health Department and ask about the rules in your county. With the Department of Agriculture (County Extension) will also be helpful. You need insurance liability of their property but does not include vendors must obtain their own. but you must be covered if someone gets hurt on your property, such as charged the day and not the percentage of my daily income. I think $ 10 per day for a 10 'x 12' outdoor space without utilities is reasonable, as you can get at least 1000 people a day in the market. If you provide interior and / or utilities to charge more. Food vendors must be responsible, so much so you have to do much marketing has to decide whether to produce and sell other items, or if everything should be made / grown / prepared by the seller or their families can be very profitable if you can get 100 vendors set up days / week, but you have a lot of general insurance, facility upgrades, electricity costs, can provide a port of the Johns etc. New farmers market is a good book on this subject
