Global Trade: Leveling the Playing Field
In February of 2008, 64 small and medium sized businesses were invited to the United State from India for a conference. Motivation for the visiting companies was the potential of connecting with American businesses and breaking into the US market. During the conference participants attended addresses from business, government, and association leaders, enjoyed meals and participated in networking meetings.
Nearing the conclusion, a director from a parts manufacturer in India stood and addressed one of the sponsors. He had 1 burning question for the organizers which he expressed with much emotion:
“ Where are all of the business connections we expected to make?”
The participants had spent the time and expense of flying halfway around the world, staying in 5 star hotel and yet were leaving in frustration because of the lack of relevant connections. This director was hoping to show executives from companies in the USA the quality and superiority of his company’s products. Despite considerable expense, he returned to India without the desired connections.
International as well as domestic business connections are vitally important. Government departments are dedicated to making trade contacts for their constituents. A top agenda item for the US Chamber of Commerce is “….Benefit US workers, farmers, and families, through leveling the playing field for trade….”
Lack of trade opportunities is often blamed as the culprit to underdevelopment. Thomas Friedman author of The World is Flat stated “…Economic Growth and Trade remains the best anti-poverty program in the world…”
The above conference inspired the creation of OrgMatcher, a global platform for corporations, small and medium sized businesses, government institutions, professional services providers and educational institutions to connect online.
OrgMatcher levels the playing field for small and medium sized businesses by providing global access to partners through the internet. Utilizing patent pending matching system, OrgMatcher matches organizations with relevant partners including the following: A medium sized parts manufacturer in India with an American corporation. A consultant in Japan with a small business in Thailand. A grocery store in Des Moines Iowa with a rice grower in China.
